Ashley Jeffrey is a leader in educational reform. As a member of the Executive Team at a DC charter high school, she drives initiatives to empower Black and Brown students through leadership development, effective power-sharing with educators, and leveraging artificial intelligence for educational equity.
Her background in grassroots activism fuels her urgency around this work. Days after she began her tenure as president of the Association of Black Students at WashU, Mike Brown was killed in Ferguson, MO. In response, Ashley organized hundreds of students to action, including marches and sit-ins, and coordinated with senior university officials to create a diversity and inclusion course for incoming freshmen.
Ashley's activism didn't stop in college, either. In 2020, she co-started the #BlackAt social media movement spotlighting systemic racism in education, which garnered national attention. She believes that Black and Brown students deserve adults' best efforts, providing them with the excellent education they deserve.
Ashley's activism and policy reports have been featured in The New York Times, Education Week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and even on Good Morning America. Ashley has presented at notable venues such as Yale, Harvard, and Howard University. Her efforts also extend to podcasts and radio because she loves to talk about how educators can and should better themselves for our youth.
Ashley holds an M.Ed. in Education Policy and Management from Harvard University and a B.A. in Urban Studies and African-American Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. She lives in Arlington, VA with her fiancee and their adventurous cat, Muna.
